Despite temperatures that hovered near the 100-degree mark, several
thousand spectators turned out at the Oceanfront last Saturday and
Sunday to watch the 1995 Budweiser Jet Sport Tour races. This sixth
annual running of the off-shore jet ski competition in Virginia
Beach featured some 200 expert and professional riders splashing for
honors in 12 classes. The event is co-sponsored by Nissan 4x4 trucks
and the International Jet Sports Boating Association and featured
teams representing jet ski manufacturers such as Kawasaki, Polaris,
Sea-Doo, Tigershark amd Yamaha. Virginia Beach is the fifth stop on
a 10-race Bud Jet Sports tour this year, with nearly $1 million in
awards up for grabs. The Virginia Beach race was taped and will be
aired on July 27 at 4 p.m. on ESPN and July 31 at 3:30 a.m. on
ESPN2.
