At least one race will be contested this fall in Elizabeth City municipal elections.
Physician Randall Sherman, 46, of Rivershore Road threw his name into the ring for the 1st Ward seat on Thursday. That puts him in contention with Realtor Donald Yates Cherry, who filed for the office Wednesday. The current 1st Ward councilman, David P. Bosomworth, is moving out of the city and has said he will not run.
By Thursday afternoon, no one had announced intentions to run against Mayor H. Rick Gardner, Councilman Jimi Sutton or Councilwoman Myrtle Rivers. All three have filed for re-election.
Former Councilman Zack Robertson has filed for the 2nd Ward seat, which Councilman W.L. ``Pete'' Hooker said he will not seek again. by CNB
