BOY, 14, BADLY BEATEN; 1 MAN ARRESTED, 1 SOUGHT

A 14-year-old boy was severely beaten in a park early Sunday morning, police said, and they have filed charges against two men.

Jason K. Roberts, whose address was not available, was in serious condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

About 1:50 a.m. Sunday, police spokesman Lou Thurston said, officers answered a report of an assault in a park on Holly Farms Drive. They found Roberts unconscious, with head injuries.

Police learned that three young people, including Roberts, were drinking beer in the park, Thurston said, when two adult men approached. A fight broke out between the men and the youths, and Roberts and a companion were injured. The other victim was treated and released.

Based on a description of the two men, officer L. Colley arrested one man walking nearby. Police charged Gregory Watkins, 30, of the 700 block of Oliveri Lane in Virginia Beach, with one count of malicious assault, Thurston said. He was being held Sunday in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center on $50,000 bond.

An arrest warrant for malicious assault was also issued for Christopher Hogbin, 25, of the 700 block of DeLaura Lane in Virginia Beach, Thurston said. Hogbin was described as white, about 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
