During a carjacking Friday morning, a 79-year-old Portsmouth woman was dragged from her car by the ankles, police said Monday.
The woman, whose name was not released, had just gotten into her car in a parking lot in the 3100 block of High St. when a man suddenly opened the driver's door, police said.
The man demanded the woman hand over her keys and get out of the car, but she refused and began blowing the car horn.
The man grabbed the woman by the ankles and pulled her out. He then drove away in the car with an accomplice, police said.
The victim suffered a cut on her left forearm and a bruise on the back of her head. She was taken to Maryview Medical Center.
Police spokesman G.A. Brown said the car, a 1985 gold four-door Oldsmobile, was recovered near Emporia Monday afternoon.
A police investigator was headed to that city to interview the man who was driving the car when it was found. No arrests had been made Monday night.
