There's been a change at the top at the Chesapeake Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.
Former Mayor Sidney M. Oman has taken over as chairman of the board of directors. He replaces former Chairman Robert A. Hunter, who moved to Alabama for a new job.
Oman, who was president of the Chesapeake Chamber's board in 1969, will serve on an interim basis until January, when the Chamber's board will elect new officers.
``We've called upon a past chairman for his wisdom and leadership, which he has, of course, plenty to give,'' said Donna L. Girardot, executive director of the Chamber's Chesapeake division.
Oman's appointment comes as the regional Chamber undertakes a review of the programs and services it offers its members.
``Like all organizations, the Chamber is looking at serving our membership better, and how we can do that, either by restructuring or reprogramming,'' Girardot said.
The review is expected to be completed sometime in the fall.
Oman said he did not have plans yet for what he hopes to accomplish during his tenure as chairman. His first regular board meeting was this week.
``We're in the process of sitting down and talking. . . . I can't really say what our thrust will be,'' he said.
Oman was mayor of Chesapeake for three terms during the 1980s. by CNB
