The economy slowed to almost a standstill in the second quarter of 1995, turning in its weakest performance in nearly four years. The Commerce Department said that gross domestic product, measuring all goods and services produced in the United States, grew only at 0.5 percent annual rate in the spring. GDP increased at a 2.7 percent annual rate in the first three months of 1995 after a booming 5.1 percent pace in the fourth quarter of 1994. The second quarter sluggishness could increase pressure on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates. (AP) by CNB
