The Navy awarded Newport News Shipbuilding a $64 million contract for design support services on the Seawolf attack submarine, U.S. Rep. Robert Scott, D-3rd District, announced late Monday. The giant yard has been helping design the Seawolf for nine years. Electric Boat in Groton, Conn., is building two Seawolfs for the Navy. Newport News Shipbuilding's continued participation in the Seawolf design will help the yard maintain some of its submarine-building capability even as the future of Navy subs is debated in Congress. by CNB
