CAREER TRACK

ART

Susan M. Fincke was named director of development with the Generic Theater in Norfolk. She was previously employed at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton as a grant administrator. She has also served as assistant director of the Women's Center at Old Dominion University.

EDUCATION

Rene Perez-Lopez has been appointed vice president for Information Systems at Virginia Wesleyan College. In his new position, he will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing computing and information technology support, including library and media services. Perez-Lopez, who joined the college staff in 1986 as Director of the Library, will continue to serve in that position.

James M. Haggard, a partner at Eason, Lawson & Westphal, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants in Hampton, has been elected as chairman of the Hampton School Board and as chairman of the board of directors of the Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads.

ENGINEERING

Michael DeRosier and Patricia Sakson joined Langley and McDonald in Virginia Beach as landscape architects. Prior to joining the engineering firm, DeRosier was a landscape architect in Reston, Va., and Sakson was certified as a Virginia nurseryman while working in a nursery in Williamsburg. She was also employed as a landscape architect in Atlantic City for two years.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Steven B. Ackerman has joined the medical staff at NDC Medical Center, a Sentara medical group in Norfolk. Ackerman attended Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he received his doctorate in medicine in 1990. He is board certified in internal medicine.

Also, Dr. Johnnie A. Lee has joined the medical staff at NDC Medical Center. Lee attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he received his doctorate in medicine in 1989. Lee is board certified in internal medicine.

HOSPITALITY

Jim Coggin has been appointed to senior sales manager of the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. Coggin had previously worked with the Cavalier sales team and had been employed with the hotel for six years. Prior to that, he worked at Commonwealth Park, a hotel in Richmond.

LAW

Linda Fox Connell has joined the law firm of Greg D. McCormack in Virginia Beach. She will practice in the areas of criminal defense, military defense, personal injury and domestic law.

Connell was formerly an attorney with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps at Fort Eustis.

Neil L. Rose, a director in the Norfolk law firm of Mezzullo & McCandlish, was elected president of the Hampton Roads Tax Forum, a local organization providing continuing education to lawyers and accountants. Rose will also serve as chairman of the board of trustees of Leadership Hampton Roads, a leadership training program sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

ORGANIZATIONS

Pat Gaskins of DJG Inc. in Williamsburg has been elected as chapter president of the Virginia State Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services for 1995/1996.

The Public Relations Society of America has awarded accreditation to three members of the Hampton Roads PRSA chapter: Walter S. DeForest, senior coordinator for the Military Benefits Association; Nancy Lee Harrison, marketing communications coordinator for Chesapeake General Hospital; and Kimberly King Hinson, who is media and community relations manager for the Virginia Air and Space Center.

The Hampton Roads Shipping Association has elected Carl D. Parker III, president of Hasler & Company, ship agents and David C. Wible, president of T. Parker Host Inc., ship agents, to the board of directors.

RETAIL

John Westbrook is the new mall manager at Lynnhaven Mall. Westbrook was previously manager at College Square Mall in Cedar Falls, Iowa for seven years.

WHOLESALE

Thomas N. Allen, chairman of East Coast Oil Corporation in Richmond, has been elected to the board of directors of Noland Company, a Newport News based wholesale distribution firm. Allen, who fills a new seat on the board, is also chairman of Acme Markets of Virginia Inc., a supermarket chain with 11 stores in Virginia and West Virginia.

MID-ATLANTIC

John Sherman Jr. has been promoted to the new position of executive vice president and chief operating officer of Scott & Stringfellow Inc. in Richmond. Sherman formerly served as head of branch administration for Scott & Stringfellow Inc. Prior to joining Scott & Stringfellow, Sherman held executive positions with Wachovia Bank and Wheat First Butcher Singer in Kinston, N.C.

Steven C. DeLaney has been promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer of Scott & Stringfellow in Richmond. DeLaney has also been elected to the board of directors of Scott & Stringfellow Financial Inc.
