The Consumer Information Center offers a guide to federal government sales published by the U.S. General Services Administration that gives up-to-date information on 18 major federal sales programs including what they sell, how to buy, and where to get more details. The Guide to Federal Government Sales (item number 143B) costs $1.75. They also provide a U.S. Real Property Sales list (item number 515B, free), and the HUD Home Buying Guide (item number 635B, free). They also warn that ads selling ``inside'' information on government sales are misleading and may be fraudulent. Microbac Laboratories Mid-Atlantic Division is sponsoring a free seminar for local seafood processors on Wednesday. The half-day conference in Newport News will address new Food and Drug Administration safety standards - particularly the Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Point - targeting the seafood industry. NEW BUSINESSES

Jusman Inc., a Spotsylvania-based company that owns and operates the Arnold and Bakers' outlets in Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia, has opened two operations in Norfolk. The Bakers' Outlet began operations on East Little Creek Road on July 10, and a second operation on 22nd Street is scheduled to open Aug. 9. Diane Honaker will manage both operations.

HONORS, AWARDS

Resource Bank in Virginia Beach has been recognized by the Office of Chief Council for Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Association in Washington as one of the leading banks in the state that lends to small business. The bank was also recently recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the 21 best banks in the Mid-Atlantic region to lend to small business. Resource was one of five banks in the state and the only bank in Hampton Roads to be honored by Entrepreneur Magazine and the Small Business Association. Small business lending is defined as loans made under $25O,000 and Resource Bank specialized in small business loans between $100,000 and $750,000. The bank has assets of approximately $76,000,000.

BANKRUPTCIES

Business bankruptcies filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk:

GDBW Mobile Home Park Inc. (Twin Ponds Mobile Home Park) filed chapter 11 reorganization on July 31 with assets of $2,408,293.48 and liabilities of $2,163,807.62.

Horace Elwood Alexander (contractor) and Evelyn Keen Alexander filed chapter 7 liquidation on Aug. 1 with assets of $91,266 and liabilities of $121,274.

CONTRACTS

The Crofton Diving Corp. in Portsmouth received a $1.4 million contract from the city of Portsmouth for fender system repair and replacement at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal.

APAC-Virginia Inc. in Portsmouth received a $953,228 contract from the city of Suffolk for 0.40 miles of 4-lane roadway, storm drainage pipe and water main on Town Point Road.

Monde Construction in Newport News received a $616,317 contract from the Langley Research Center in Hampton for cockpit motion facility and addition to building 1268A.
