Mrs. Barsha Victoria Howell Greer McFarland, 72, of Port Arthur, died Saturday, August 5, 1995, at her residence.
A native of Gates County, N.C., she had been a resident of Port Arthur since 1947. She was a public health nurse for Jefferson County for 19 years and was a school nurse for Tyrrell Elementary, Pease Elementary, and Sims Elementary Schools. Mrs. McFarland was a charter member of St. Mark's First United Methodist Church, in Port Arthur, where she had been active in Sunday School and in the Afterschool Child Care Services at the church. In addition, she has been a tutor in the Adult Literacy Program of the Port Arthur Public Library, a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, Port Arthur Association of Retired School Personnel and served has the Secretary-Treasurer of the Tallow Woods Homeowners Association for three years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mrs. McFarland served during World War II as a charge nurse.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. John McFarland of Port Arthur; daughter, Mrs. Viki Ann Jones of Louisville, Texas; her son, Mr. John Albert Greer of Bellaire, Texas; sister, Mrs. Thamer Eure of Gates County, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Michelle Lynn Jones, Johnathan Greer, and Megan Greer.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. today at Levingston Funeral Home Chapel in Groves, with the Rev. Byron Jarratt officiating. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. today at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville. Arrangements are under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home of Groves. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Groves.
