BEACH MUSIC FESTIVAL TO FEATURE ENTERTAINERS, VOLTAGE BROTHERS

BEACH MUSIC without the sweat and sand - that's the idea behind Tidewater Academy's 1995 Tidewater Beach Music Festival.

The date is Aug. 26, the entertainers are The Entertainers and the Voltage Brothers.

The fund-raising event, to benefit the school's educational programs, offers music and money.

A drawing for the Academy's Big Money Raffle will be held during the concert. The grand prize is $10,000; second, $2,000; third, $1,000; and three consolation prizes of $100 each.

The $100 raffle tickets come with two free passes to the school's fifth annual end-of-summer fund raiser.

The stars are the singin' and dancin' Voltage Brothers of Atlanta, whose music runs through the years - from 1920 to 1990.

The Voltage Brothers offer Cotton Club and country club music - songs by the Temptations, Drifters, James Brown, Otis Redding, Elton John and others.

The Voltage Brothers got their start as teenagers in Rochester, N.Y. They called their group The Destinations.

Later, they moved to Los Angeles and changed their name to Funky Heavy. There, they landed a gig with the prestigious Kool Jazz Festival, appearing with Kool & The Gang, The O'Jays, Teddy Pendergrass and Gladys Knight.

The group moved to Atlanta and, in 1986, were presented the Campus Entertainment Award for their work at colleges and universities.

The Voltage Brothers have recorded for Lifesong/CBS Records and MTM Records and appeared in the film ``Shag'' with Phoebe Cates and Bridget Fonda.

The opening act, The Entertainers, also features singing and dancing.

They have done their entertaining at Myrtle Beach, in clubs from Virginia to Florida and on eight albums.

In 1988, The Entertainers were nominated for Group of the Year and Single of the Year at the third annual Beach Music Awards presentation. Their second album, ``Don't Let Your Love Grow Cold,'' won Album of the Year honors. AT A GLANCE
