James L. Pope, 58, of the 100 block of Allard Road, died Aug. 7, 1995, in his home.
He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and was born on Sept. 23, 1936. He was a retired butcher and was the widower of Della M. Pope.
Survivors include his four sons, Bruce E. Pope of Newport News, James R. Pope and Mario Mills, both of Portsmouth, and Lee A. Pope of August, Ga.; his mother, Betty Sue Pope of Suffolk; three sisters, Dorothy Moore of Newport News, Ada Barcliff and Betty Francis, both of Suffolk; three brothers, Lawrence Pope and Robert Pope, both of Suffolk, and Willie J. Pope of Texas.; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, aunts and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Joe Pope.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
