A 6-year-old boy died Tuesday from injuries he sustained at the beach.
The child's name has not been released.
At about 5:30 p.m. the boy allegedly was playing on a large log or pole at the edge of the water near the Sanderling Resort, according to Harry Seymour, public safety director for Dare County.
The child fell from the log, which rolled from his feet to his chest and pinned him to the sand.
Bob Gabriel, president of Lifeguard Beach Service, said the child suffered a broken pelvis.
Seymour said the child was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
