A gas-powered golf cart was responsible for a fire that left smoke and water damage to six condominium units in Barrier Island Station Tuesday, firefighters said.
No one was injured.
Ron Meadows, chief of the Duck Volunteer Fire Department, said a maintenance worker who was driving the golf cart parked it in a driveway under the building to get supplies. When she returned, the cart was on fire.
The fire spread to the four-level building. Four families were displaced because of the blaze.
The cost of the damage is not yet determined, Meadows said.
