Joseph N. ``Joe Boy'' Ewing Sr., of the 1200 block of Underwood Ave., slept peacefully away on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1995. He was born on Aug. 16, 1938, to the late Frankline R.J. Ewing Sr. and Eunice Peebles Ewing. He was the widower of Bettie Sanders Ewing.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Joyce Ann Sanders; one son, James Ewing; five grandchildren, Buttery Ewing, Joseph Sanders, Michael Sanders, Bettina Ewing, and Melvin Sanders of Norfolk; sister, Margie Perkins of Chesapeake; three brothers, Willie Ewing of Fort Pierce, Fla., Henry Ewing of Ahoskie, N.C.; and Franklin R.J. Ewing II of Richmond; two aunts, Lizzie Evans and Margie Ewing of High Point, N.C; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Alice Sanders; four sisters-in-law, Colleen Ewing, Ella Brown, Ollie Bell Prater and Josephine Porter; brother-in-law, John Saunders; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1995, in Graves Funeral Chapel, by the Rev. Marcellus Harris. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will assemble at 1234 Underwood Ave. the day of the service.``Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.'' Psalm 30.
