PUBLIC SCHOOL HEARING: The public is invited to discuss the qualities and qualifications they would like to see in the new superintendent of the Virginia Beach public schools during a forum Thursday.
It will be at 7 p.m. at Green Run High School.
The Superintendent Search Community Advisory Committee, a group appointed by the School Board to represent the community, will be present.
Citizens who want to speak should sign up before the hearing by calling 427-4641.
MAYOR SEEKS COUNTY SEAT: Mayor Robert C. Claud announced Monday that he will seek the Windsor District seat on the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors.
Claud, 60, a retired C&P Telephone Co. executive, is running as an independent. He will be opposed Nov. 7 by Joni Griffin, also independent.
The filing deadline was re-opened when Democratic candidate L. Lorenzo ``Ren'' Spivey withdrew after an emotional breakdown. The last day to file is Sept. 23.
Claud, a Windsor native, has been on the Town Council for 16 years. He was vice mayor for six years before he was elected mayor five years ago.
He also serves on several other boards, including the Isle of Wight/Smithfield/Windsor Chamber of Commerce, P.D. Pruden Vocational Technical Center and the local United Way.
If elected, Claud would be required to resign as mayor. by CNB
