The body of an 18-year-old Suffolk man, missing since five people were dumped into the James River when their boat sank Sunday, was found floating Tuesday near the Norfolk shore of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
Hampton police and the Virginia Marine Resources Commission identified the body of Jonathan Carey, of the 1500 block of Lake Speight Drive. Police continued searching for his cousin, Prentis ``Pete'' Hopkins, 26, of the 1100 block of Blythewood Drive.
Wilford Kale, spokesman for the VRMC, said a motorist on the bridge-tunnel spotted the body and that a Hampton police and fire rescue team retrieved it.
Carey and four relatives went on fishing trip about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Their 15-foot boat capsized in turbulent waters pushed by strong wind. Richard Wynn Carroll, 30, his son, Richard Wynn Carroll Jr., 9, and cousin Solomon Wesley Darden, 12, swam to an abandoned lighthouse, and the Coast Guard rescued them eight hours later.
Carey, a recent graduate of Lakeland High School, aspired to become an artist.
Carey is survived by his parents, Brenda and James Carey, and an older brother. Funeral arrangements are pending at Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington St.
