Cargo tonnage shipped across the state-owned docks in Hampton Roads grew at a strong 11.7 percent pace in July, Virginia International Terminals Inc. announced Thursday. VIT operates the Virginia Port Authority's three terminals in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport News. Those terminals handled 593,000 tons of general cargo in July, up from 531,000 tons in July 1994.
