Pier fishing along the northern beaches was good on Thursday, with a variety of fish taken.

After a slow morning, anglers off Kitty Hawk Pier landed a few spanish mackerel, spot and cobia, weighing 30 and 55 pounds, during the afternoon. On Avalon Pier a few great trout, speckled trout, small bottom fish and pompons were taken.

Fishermen on Nags Head Pier caught spot, croaker, blues, sand perch, and both gray and speckled trout sporadically throughout the day. Jennette's Pier reported quite a few nice spot and a few croaker taken.

On Outer Banks Pier, spot fishing was good around midday. A few speckled trout were taken by anglers fishing on the bottom with bloodworms.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported a few mullet, spot and nice blues taken. Lots of spot and a few croakers were decked on the Avon Pier. Fishermen off Frisco Pier landed a handful of small spot and bluefish.

Surf fishing was fair along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet, with small bottom fish and Tailor blues taken. Sport fishing was good in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton. Some blues were also landed in the area early in the morning.

At Cape Point, blues and Spanish mackerel were taken just after first light and small bottom fish during the day. Anglers from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet caught plenty of spot, a few flounder, pompons, and spanish mackerel in the surf.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was fairly good with spanish mackerel and a few blues taken. Headboats in the inlet area caught lots of croakers and small gray trout. Dolphin were abundant in the Gulf Stream, off Oregon Inlet. Charters also landed yellowfin tuna and a few wahoo. A few billfish were released, including a white marlin and a sailfish by the Sea Witch, a white marlin by the Temptress and a sailfish by the Sea Fever.

Off Hatteras, a few dolphin and wahoo were taken. Billfish were scarce with four releases reported. Spanish mackerel and bluefish should provide action for weekend anglers if winds remain light and the inshore waters clear.
