The Currituck County Board of Commissioners has decided not to act on a proposed ordinance that would have required private roads to be brought up to minimum state standards.
The county had considered a requirement that private roads include at least a 6- to 8-inch gravel base in new subdivisions of two or more lots.
The regulation was proposed as a way to improve and maintain private roads.
Some residents, particularly in lower Currituck, were upset by the proposal, said Jack Simoneau, the county's planning and inspections director. by CNB
