Nonfarm employment in Virginia reached a new all-time high for the second consecutive month, rising to 3.1 million in June. The number of jobs increased 67,000, or 2.2 percent, between June 1994 and June 1995. Annual employment increases usually are smaller in the summer months when public and private schools are closed. The private sector still saw strong growth of 80,200 jobs or 3.3 percent, while public sector employment was down 13,200 due in part to Gov. George F. Allen's efforts to reduce the size of state government. Services - at 883,200 - again was the fastest-growing industry, accounting for 60.6 percent of the annual nonfarm increase. (Staff) by CNB
