Bottom fishing from ocean piers along the Dare coast was fair over the weekend.
Kitty Hawk Pier reported a few mullet and spot taken on bloodworms.
Anglers on Avalon Pier caught scattered spot, mullet and croaker. Several pompano also were landed.
A handful of croaker and spot were taken on Nags Head Pier.
Jennette's Pier reported slow fishing, with only a few small bottom fish landed.
Spot fishing was good Saturday on Outer Banks Pier. Some pompano and a six-pound black drum also were decked. Action slowed Sunday, with only a few bottom fish taken.
On Hatteras Island, some nice spot were landed during the weekend from Rodanthe Pier. A 37-pound king mackerel was taken on the pier by Billy Futrell of Murfreesboro Saturday.
Anglers on Avon Pier caught a few bottom fish. A few spot and croaker were landed from Frisco Pier Saturday and Sunday.
Pier fishing was slow Monday morning throughout the Outer Banks because of rainy, windy weather.
Surf fishermen from Corolla to Oregon Inlet caught small bottom fish, pompano and a few bluefish over the weekend.
Sand perch, gray trout, croaker and spot were taken in the surf around Oregon Inlet. Some sheepshead were landed around the supports of the Bonner Bridge.
Small bottom fish were taken along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. Small blues were landed at a steady rate Saturday morning, and pompano weighing as much as 1 1/2 pounds were taken during the day.
Fishing was slow overall at Cape Point. Albacore were landed at the Cape early Saturday morning, and some spot and flounder were beached during the remainder of the weekend.
Small bluefish were landed on metal in the False Point area Saturday morning.
Scattered spot and bluefish were taken along the Frisco beach.
Inshore trolling was pretty good around Oregon Inlet Saturday, with Spanish mackerel and bluefish taken.
Headboats fishing near the inlet caught some nice sea mullet. Headboat catches in the sound consisted of croaker and lots of small gray trout.
Tuna fishing was good off Oregon Inlet Saturday. Yellowfin tuna weighing from 50 to 70 pounds were abundant outside the 70-degree tower. Additionally, scattered dolphin were taken by the charter fleet and eight billfish were released.
Tuna fishing was good in the same area Sunday, but dolphin and billfish were scarce.
The Hatteras charter fleet caught a few dolphin and wahoo over the weekend. Several sailfish were released Saturday but billfish were scarce Sunday.
Northeast winds should produce good spot fishing for pier anglers along the Dare coast.
