USAir, Northwest Airlines and Continental Airlines have launched separate fare sales if tickets are purchased no later than Friday. USAir, the dominant carrier at Norfolk International Airport, is offering discounts of up to 58 percent on flights in North America. To qualify for the discounts on most flights, buyers must stay over a Friday night and tickets must be purchased at least seven days in advance. In some markets, purchases may be made until Sept. 15 with a 14-day advance and a Saturday night stay. All travel must be completed by December 15. Northwest said its prices would be cut in half in most major cities. Tickets must be purchased at least 14 days in advance. Continental cut fares an average of 40 percent but said it would meet Northwest's prices in cities where they compete. Tickets must be purchased seven days in advance. (Staff and wire) by CNB
