Again before us comes an attempt at rezoning our quiet residential area. How many times must we fight this battle? We do not want our rural residential areas zoned to industrial use.
Every county in Virginia is required to have a Comprehensive Plan for land use. Isle of Wight County has such a plan, and therein are established guidelines, which have been mapped out and stand posted in our county offices.
Our area near and around Hunt Club Road is a rural residential-/-agricultural area and is designated to be reserved as such. We are an off-highway community, and many of us settled here feeling that we were leaving behind the hustle-and-bustle noises of big city and industry. We would like to keep it that way, and we believe that if the recommendations of the county's Comprehensive Plan are followed, we will be allowed to continue to enjoy our quiet neighborhoods.
I can only ask our commissioners and supervisors, what is a plan worth if we don't follow its guidelines? And if you allow this rezoning of our residential area to industrial, then what will happen to all the rest of our residential areas in this county? Where does it stop?
I ask all concerned citizens to speak out about what they want in this matter.

Carrsville Center surpasses care expected for mother
We, the children of the late Mrs. Maggie Ricks, are happy to share a very positive and uplifting fact regarding the Courtland Healthcare Center.
Tough love is realizing when such a facility is needed and entrusting strangers with the care of someone so dear to you. Our mother was a resident of Unit C for four years. She died July 20.
We are truly incapable of expressing our gratitude and thorough satisfaction with the professionalism of the administrators, the dedication of the nurses and their staff, the eagerness and meticulous manner displayed by those who were responsible for keeping Unit C spotless and the camaraderie of the residents - roommates who were genuinely concerned about the welfare of each other. Such an environment is second to none, a true demonstration of getting along with people of all cultures, religions, races and ethnic backgrounds.
Courtland Healthcare Center is representative of a community of caring individuals who are dedicated to their professions. We never thought of this center as a ``nursing home.'' It is so much more!
Citizens of Southampton County and vicinity are truly blessed to have such an establishment whose health care team provides the level of care that is exemplary and whose aims are to preserve the dignity and self-respect of each resident.
The contributions of the Courtland Healthcare Center for the community will forever be praised by us, the children of Maggie Ricks.

I am disappointed that there was no coverage of the Community Network Association (CNA).
I am one of many individuals who are taking part. I was impressed with the training for moderator given by CNA at Virginia Wesleyan in August.
I urge you to help inform the public about CNA. Deliberation is a great way to include and examine a lot of diverse views on education. What I came away with is the fact that everyone has a stake in education. Perhaps the profound thing is that I was affected by the process. We can certainly gain from seeing things from different perspectives as they relate to individuals, families, businesses, schools, and city, state and federal government.
