Estelle Hooks Byrum, 92, of Route 1, died Sept. 2, 1995, in her home.
She was born in Wayne County, N.C. The daughter of the late Barden Vance and Mrs. Ida Garriss Hooks, she was a former teacher in the Nashville, N.C., and Sunbury schools. A graduate of Salem College in Winston-Salem in 1924, she was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church, Sunbury, and its United Methodist Women. She was a former member of Sunbury Women's Club. She was the wife of the late William Graham Byrum.
Surviving are one daughter, Betty Lilley and her husband, MG (Ret.) Aaron L. Lilley Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; one son, Dr. G. Vance Byrum and his wife, Betty Jean Byrum of Scotland Neck, N.C.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Philadelphia United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lisa Creech Bledsoe. Burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
