Guy Davis Taylor Jr., 69, of 5705 Oak Terrace Drive, Virginia Beach, went home to be with his Lord on Sept. 4, 1995.
A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., he retired in 1982 as a budget officer at the Naval Supply Center after 33 years of service, receiving the Navy Meritorious Civil Service Award. Mr. Taylor was a member of Parkway Temple, Chesapeake, serving as a Sunday School teacher and as past president of the Sunday School class. He was a member of the Church Instrumental Ensemble and an instrumentalist for Hampton Lodge Campground Church services.
He belonged to the Musicians Union, Local (NU)125, and was past member of Toastmasters International No. 2541, a member of the Young Audiences of America Jazz Ensemble, where he was known as ``Pink Panther Man,'' the Lou Saks Band and the Guy Taylor Group. He was the founding president of the Woodstock Recreation League and a member of the last graduating class of Old Dominion College.
Mr. Taylor was a United States Army veteran of World War II, where he was a bandsman playing the saxophone. During his Army service he received the American Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Mildred Mae Wilson Taylor; two daughters, Millie Taylor Poston of Virginia Beach, and Donna Lynn Taylor Listol of Chesapeake; two sons, Guy Davis Taylor III of Chesapeake and Gary David Taylor of Virginia Beach; and his mother, Kathleen Poff Taylor of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Shirley JoAnn Williams of Virginia Beach and Evelyn Gail Hampton of Chesapeake; and a brother, Robert L. Taylor of Richmond, Va.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stacie, Ashley, and Brandon Guy Taylor, Kris, Jeni and Lori Poston, and Shannon and Amber Listol and Samantha Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his father, Guy Davis Taylor Sr., and a sister, Billie Mae Shelby.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 1995, in Parkway Temple, 601 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake, by Mrs. Betty Trueblood, the Rev. Rob Pittman and the Rev. Doug Roberts. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, will be in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and other times at the residence.
