A Newport News woman was seriously injured Thursday when her car collided with a school bus, state police spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame reported.
No students were injured in the accident on Route 134 near Big Bethel Road at 8:46 a.m. The bus driver, Sheila Mcabee of Yorktown, was taken to Riverside Medical Center with minor injuries, Van Dame said.
Teresa Canada, the driver of a Pontiac Sunbird, was taken by air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said Canada, 35, was traveling south on Route 134 when she apparently ran a red light and hit the bus.
The car became trapped underneath the bus and was dragged about 50 feet. Canada was trapped in the car for about 20 minutes, Van Dame said.
