Two men grabbed a bag from Brinks Inc. guard Thursday morning outside a supermarket and then escaped, police reported.
The incident occurred outside a Food Lion store in the Towne Point Square shopping center in the 3900 block of Twin Pines Road. The guard was walking from the store toward an armored car, police said, when two men approached, one of them armed with a semi-automatic handgun.
They grabbed the bag and ran behind the Food Lion store in the vicinity of Churchland North apartments, a police spokesman said.
A security officer employed by the shopping center pursued the suspects, but lost them. Police then conducted a search, but were also unable to locate the two men.
Both suspects were described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and wearing baggy khaki pants. One wore a red shirt and the other a green shirt.
The stolen bag contained an undisclosed amount of cash, checks and food stamps, police said.
