City Council meetings are telecast live beginning at 7 p.m. on Municipal Access TV/Channel 13 on Falcon Cable. Telecast is repeated at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The work session on the fourth Wednesday is taped and aired at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. the following Thursday through Sunday.
The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday:
A. An ordinance establishing an Antenna Tower Revenue account and appropriating $12,000 for payment of a lease. The account will pay for land on which the city has erected a 400-foot communications tower - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0
B. An ordinance authorizing the submission of a grant application for funding by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development's clean sites program. The money will be used to rehabilitate proposed commercial and industrial property near the old Planters' site; accepting and appropriating grant awards to be received, and authorizing the City Manager to do all things necessary to receive and implement the grant award. The grant award will be used to for possible commercial or industrial purposes. If the city receives the funding, it will be required to match the grant by half. - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0
C. An ordinance to appropriate $43,405 to purchase equipment for drug investigations by the City of Suffolk Police Department - First Reading. No vote on first readings
D. An ordinance to appropriate $54,576 from the Virginia Fire Programs Fund. The money will be used by the city's fire department and volunteer fire departments - First Reading. No vote on first readings
E. An ordinance appropriating a grant award from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Litter Control and recycling for Fiscal Year 1995-96 - First Reading. No vote on first readings
F. Ordinance appropriating a grant award of $53,114 from the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program (SEVAMP) for Senior Citizens Programs for Fiscal Year 1995-96 - First Reading. No vote on first reading
A. Resolution commemorating the 65th anniversary of the founding of Old Dominion University. Approved, 7-0
B. Resolution declaring the City of Suffolk a drought disaster area, and requesting the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia declare the City a drought disaster area. Approved, 7-0
C. Resolution approving the terms and conditions of the agreement between the City of Suffolk and the United Church Retirement Homes Inc., which agreement relates to cost participation of a potable water main along Kings Fork Road. Tabled for 90 days
A. Schedule a City Council Retreat for Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 23, at Tidewater Community College Campus. Approved, 7-0
B. Establish a City Council Work Session for Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. unless canceled. Approved, 7-0 by CNB
