MAURY GIRLS, GLOUCESTER A BOYS IN SOUTHEASTERN CROSS COUNTRY

The Maury girls and the Gloucester A boys claimed team championships in the fifth annual Southeastern Invitational cross-country meet at Churchland Saturday.

Senior Sara Frueh, a three-year outdoor track veteran who did not run cross-country last season, paced the Commodores with a 21:03 clocking over the 3.1-mile course.

Maury finished with 32 points, posting a 13-point edge over runner-up Gloucester.

The Commodores placed all five runners in the top 15, also claiming fourth, sixth, seventh and 14th.

Maury's Emily Kirsch finished fourth at 22:42.

``That's my best time yet,'' said the elated Frueh, who placed eighth in the recent All-Comers meet at Norfolk Academy.

Andrew Riley reeled off a 17:11 time in leading Gloucester's boys victory. Wilson's Kenya Edwards was second at 17:22 and teammate Perez Bottoms was fourth at 17:28 although the Presidents entered only three runners and did not figure in the team competition.

Maury's Dallas Williams was third at 17:26.

Gloucester A finished with 25 points. Gloucester also entered a B team with only four runners. Great Bridge, entering only a portion of its squad with the top runners competing in a Northern Virginia meet, took second with 73. Warwick was third with 81. by CNB
