CIVILIANS SHOULD SUPERVISE POLICE

The more I read and see about the attitudes and conduct of police at every level, the more evident it becomes that the entire system needs to be investigated. I hope that the Ruby Ridge hearings in the Senate get to the truth and are not derailed like the House hearings over Waco.

These events are but the tip of the iceberg. There are many cases of outrageous abuses of power wherein citizens have had their constitutional rights violated, have been subjected to the most vile language, and in some cases have been murdered by people sworn to protect our rights, property and lives.

There are too many police in this country when you add all the various kinds, and they are used all too often to pose with liberal politicians for the benefit of the media.

How many Fuhrmans are there out there? We know of several more of them in Philadelphia where as many as 1,400 people are in jail due to perjured police testimony. We have seen horrible conduct by members of the L.A. police and the N.Y. police. The D.C. police failed to carry out the law during a drunken brawl by N.Y. police. Police are given guns and high-powered cars and need to be closely supervised. Supervision and review by civilian authorities are mostly nonexistent. My son was a policeman for years; he was never drug-tested even though they were supposed to be once a year.
