Thomas Emmett Stewart, 72, of the 6200 block of Hampton Blvd., died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1995, in his residence.
He retired after 35 years as Superintendent of Transportation in New York City. He was born in New York City and was the son of the late Margaret Mahoney and Vincent Stewart. Mr. Stewart was the former Fire Commissioner, Volunteer Fireman, and Secretary and Treasurer for the Stottville, N.Y. Fire Dept. He is a Catholic and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge in New York.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Stocks Brown Stewart; two daughters, Maureen S. Reville of Ridgefield, Conn., and Doreen S. Grant of Yonkers, N.Y.; a son, James M. Stewart of Norfolk; a brother, Vincent Buddy Stewart of Washington; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Stewart will be cremated and a chapel memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 1995, in Cox Funeral Home by Fr. John J. Dorgan. The family will receive friends following the service at 6203 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk.
