HAROLD J. HIZER

Pastor Harold John Hizer, 64, died Sept. 14, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.

Mr. Hizer, a retired pastor emeritus, served Grace Lutheran Church of Chesapeake for 18 years. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was the widower of Patricia Eynon Hizer. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norfolk. He served as interim pastor of Apostles Lutheran Church, Great Bridge, and was an active participant in the Lutheran Council of Tidewater. He was former chaplain of the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters, and former board member of the Norfolk YMCA. He was an avid fisherman, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include two daughters, Tracey Edwards of Chicago, and Tennyson Fleming of Chesapeake; two sons, Trenton Hizer, a doctoral candidate, of Columbia, S.C., and Dr. Todd Hizer of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Ruth Milliron of Pittsburgh; three brothers, James and William Hizer, both of Pittsburgh, and George Hizer of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two grandchildren, Erica Leigh and Patricia Jean Yi.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m Saturday in First Lutheran Church of Norfolk, by Pastor James Cobb and Pastor Bill Boldin, and Bishop Richard Bansemer. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, and at 1425 Norlina Drive at all other times. The family request memorial contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church of Chesapeake. He will be sent to Slater Funeral Home, Pittsburgh, for visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and a graveside service on Monday at 11 a.m. in Jefferson Memorial Park. Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, in charge.
