Eight Old Dominion University alumni will receive awards today at a Founder's Day luncheon celebrating the university's 65th anniversary.
Real estate executive George Dragas Jr., a 1956 graduate, will get the University Medal. He and his brother, Marcus, gave the university $400,000 to build the Dragas International Center, which is expected to open this year.
Seven other graduates will get Distinguished Alumni Awards: Marc I. Balmuth, president of Caldor Inc.; Cecil R. ``Andy'' McCullar, president and chief executive officer of Charter Federal Savings and Loan; Robert D. McKinnon, director of the ``Today'' show; Dr. W. Patrick Monaghan, who teaches nursing at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.; Meyera E. Oberndorf, mayor of Virginia Beach; Kenneth Samet, president of Washington Hospital Center in Bethesda; and Lewis M. Warren, senior vice president of S.G. Warburg Inc. by CNB
