SPOT HIT THE SPOT ALL OVER THE PIER-FISHING PLACE

Spot provided most of the action for pier fisherman along the northern beaches on Thursday. Kitty Hawk pier reported plenty of big yellow-belly spot taken during the afternoon. Anglers on Avalon pier also caught plenty of spot along with a few speckled trout on live finger mullet.

On Nags Head pier a few spot, bluefish and sea mullet were landed. Scattered spanish mackerel and bluefish were taken from Jennette's Pier during the morning and a few spot during the afternoon. On Outer Banks pier, some pompano, sea mullet, spot, small blues and little flounder were taken sporadically throughout the day.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported slow fishing with only a few small black drum landed. On Avon Pier a few sea mullet, small bluefish and small flounder were decked. Flounder weighing up to 4 pounds and some spot were caught on Frisco Pier.

Small bottom fish and a few tailor blues were landed in the surf from Corolla to Rodanthe. Along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton, bluefish, puppy drum, small groz trout and pompano were taken. At Cape Point, plenty of small bluefish, spanish mackerel, a few puppy drum and small flounder were beached.

Lots of small bluefish, scattered pompano and a few nice flounder were landed in the Hatteras Inlet area.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was excellent. Half-day charters landed limits of small bluefish and plenty of spanish mackerel. Good catches of pigfish and a few sea bass were taken by headboats around Oregon Inlet.

Billfishing was pretty good northeast of Oregon Inlet. Over 25 billfish were released, including four white marlin and a blue marlin by the Sea Toy. Three white marlin by the Sea Spray and three whites by the Dream Girl. Dolphin fishing was fairly good and tuna action was slow.

Good dolphin fishing and wahoo fishing were reported by the Hatteras offshore fleet. The Fin Quest out of Teaches' Lair returned to the dock with 20 wahoo. Some blackfin tuna were taken by the fleet and a sailfish was released by Walt Spruill's Hatteras Fever.

Spot fishing should be good on Ocean Piers along the Dare Coast this weekend if the forecast for northeast winds holds true.
