The women challenged the men Sunday, and the women won.
The Tidewater Bass-N-Babes, an all-female club, challenged the Tidewater Bassmaters of Virginia Beach to a largemouth bass match on the Perquimans River in North Carolina.
The women ended up with 61 pounds, 7 ounces of fish, the men with 48-13. And Brenda Carter of Chesapeake and Dawn Chelsey of Suffolk were the top tandem with a combined catch of 19-4.
The men saved a little face when Dwayne Nozzarelli had the day's biggest fish at 4-4.
Meanwhile, some big spot have moved into Rudee Inlet and Broad Bay, both in Virginia Beach. At least five anglers recently have earned citation awards from the Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament for fish weighing at least a pound, caught in the two areas.
The two largest weighed 17 ounces. One was boated in Broad Bay by Chris Carter of Virginia Beach, the other at Rudee Inlet by Stuart Davis Chesson of Virginia Beach.
Spot citations also have been earned at Rudee Inlet by Kenny Taylor, Brian Houser and Mark Campbell, all from Virginia Beach, all with 1-pound catches.
And on Wednesday, a group with skipper Charlie Griffin on the charter boat Sea Witch, sailing from the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center near Nags Head, scored a billfish ``grand slam.'' They released a sailfish, a blue marlin and nine white marlin. by CNB
