GERALD M. EVANS SR.

Gerald Miles Evans Sr., 53, of the 3600 block of Gateway Drive, died Sept. 19, 1995, in Portsmouth.

Mr. Evans, a retired mental hygiene therapist, worked for the State of New York for 15 years. He was born in Nyack, N.Y., and was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a U.S. Army National Guard veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Faye R. Evans; three daughters, Patricia Evans of Spring Valley, N.Y., Marjorie Evans of Norfolk, and Laurieann Szmidt of Pine Island, N.Y.; two sons, Gerald Miles Evans Jr. of Portsmouth, and Robert Conklin Evans of Kanahoe Bay, Hawaii; his father, John L. Evans of Suffolk; three sisters, Gwendolyn Burnett of Nyack, Dorothy Ann Stukes and Marjorie Brown, both of Spring Valley; four brothers, Jon Dorian Evans of New Windsor, N.Y., William Evans of Newbergh, N.Y., Wayne Ricardo Evans of Syracuse, N.Y., and Roger Keith Evans of Spring Valley; seven grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Ledora Evans; a brother, Eugene Evans; a sister, Mary Louise Canty; and granddaughter, Danielle Szmidt.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Calvary Baptist Church, by the Rev. W.S. Hampton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, with Military Honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
