The funeral for three children who died in a house fire in Ahoskie last weekend is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Harrellsville.
Tony Bunch, 14, his sister, Mary Ann Bunch, 16, and her infant son, Andrew, were killed in a blaze early Sunday morning at their home in the 700 block of Staten Ave.
Tony and Mary Ann's mother, Bereatha Vinson, 31, and stepfather, LeAndrew Vinson, 34, and an unidentified year-old child escaped the fire, which apparently started in the kitchen, police said.
The three survivors were taken to Duke University Medical Center for smoke inhalation. Bereatha Vinson also suffered a minor burn on her arm, said Sgt. S.W. Outlaw of the Ahoskie Police Department.
The family was asleep when the blaze began in the one-story, wooden frame house. LeAndrew Vinson apparently woke first and got his wife and a child out safely, but he could not find or reach the other children, Outlaw said.
