INDIAN RIVER BLANKS LAKE TAYLOR

Indian River on Saturday finished the job it started on Friday night.

Tailback Corey Holley rushed for 147 yards and the defense limited Lake Taylor to 91 yards of total offense as second-ranked Indian River whipped the Titans 20-0 in a nondistrict matchup.

Indian River (3-0) led 14-0 at intermission on Friday before the lights went out as James Boyd threw for a touchdown, ran for another and intercepted a pass.

The game resumed Saturday with Lake Taylor's Joseph Carter fumbling the second-half kickoff and Indian River's Deshone Nichols recovering at the Titans' 17. Mike Joyner turned the turnover into points when he scored on a sweep from 9 yards out.

Indian River limited Lake Taylor (2-2) to 26 yards and two first downs in the second half. Lake Taylor had minus-2 yards of offense and only one first down, due to a roughing-the-passer penalty, in the third period.

Holley, a transfer from Great Bridge, was pleased with his performance.

``I've been down lately because I haven't been playing like I was last year,'' the 5-foot-5, 156-pounder said. ``But last night (Friday) and today, I ran better. I think I'm starting to get it back.''
