Evalyn Williams Currie, 100, died Sunday morning Sept. 24, 1995, at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Currie was born in Urbana, Ohio, but spent most of her life in New Jersey. She was the widow of Hugh Currie.
Ms. Currie was from a long line of educators. Her father was president of Urbana College. Her brother, Kenneth P. Williams, was head of the math department and Professor Emeritus at Indiana University, where he authored books on Astronomy, Aerodynamics, and History. As a professional soldier (col. U.S.) he became interested in Military History and wrote a five volume detail account of the Civil War, called Lincoln Finds A General.
However, Mrs. Currie broke the mold and became a laboratory technician. She remembered being called to Camp Sherman, Ky., during World War I to assist in fighting the great influenza epidemic. She returned to work in World War II remaining at Wallace and Tiernan in Belleville, N.J. until retirement 15 years later.
Mrs. Currie was a life long devoted member of the Swedenborgian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara C. Martin of Cape Coral, Fla. and Nancy C. Hayes of Virginia Beach; five of her six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Wycliffe Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 1995. Her body is being donate to Eastern Virginia Medical School. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wycliffe Presbyterian Church.
