STUDENT STABBED

A 13-year-old Spratley Middle School student attacked a 12-year-old schoolmate with a knife Tuesday after the two girls began arguing over a piece of candy, police reported.

The fight started about 8:25 a.m. at a bus stop in the 300 block of Chamberlin Ave. near Derry Road.

After they began arguing, the 13-year-old returned to her home and retrieved a large knife, police said. She returned to the bus stop and assaulted the 12-year-old.

The girl suffered a slash on her cheek, which required four stitches, and a minor cut on her wrist. Her jacket also was cut.

According to a Hampton schools spokesman, the victim ran home and called police. She was treated at Hampton General Hospital and released.

The assailant was taken to Hampton Juvenile Intake.
