House Speaker Newt Gingrich announced Tuesday that he has appointed Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr., R-N.C., to the 1995 Defense Conference Committee.
The committee will work to produce a bill that resolves differences in House and Senate defense spending. Freshmen members of Congress are rarely appointed to these committees.
``I am pleased with this appointment,'' Jones said. ``It gives me the opportunity to stay on top of issues which concern all of us in Eastern North Carolina, and which will have major impact on the security of the United States.'' by CNB
