NORFOLK MAN HELD IN AREA'S 2ND CASE OF SHAKEN-BABY SYNDROME

A Norfolk man was arrested this week in connection with assaulting a 3-year-old who has been diagnosed with shaken-baby syndrome, police reported Thursday.

John S. Strausser, of the 6300 block of Alexander St., was charged with malicious wounding, police reported. The incident happened on July 31. Strausser and his wife were in the process of adopting the child, a police spokeswoman said.

The child was admitted to Portsmouth Naval Hospital, where he is in ``extremely serious condition,'' the spokeswoman said.

Earlier this week, Virginia Beach police charged a babysitter in the 1993 death of an 11-month old child.

Investigators said they believe Jonathan Dang died from violent shaking.

Police charged Ngoc Nhu Le, 25, of the the 1500 block of Halter Drive in Virginia Beach with first degree murder.
