Navy divers are scheduled to make another attempt next week to recover the propeller of the Civil War ironclad Monitor, a ship that revolutionized naval warfare.
The USS Edenton was scheduled to arrive off the North Carolina coast Tuesday, said Justin Kinney, a spokesman for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, on Thursday.
Divers struggled against fast currents, rough seas and equipment problems last month but could not complete the job of lifting the prop from the ocean floor.
The Monitor lies in the ocean 17 miles off Cape Hatteras, where it sank in 1862 during a storm. by CNB
