Pier anglers along the Outer Banks caught a variety of fish Thursday.
Fishermen on Kitty Hawk Pier landed spot, black drum, scattered bluefish and a few trout. Spanish mackerel were taken from the end of the pier.
Avalon Pier reported a few pompano, bluefish, keeper puppy drum and a 3.5-pound speckled trout decked.
A few trout, spot, tailor bluefish and croaker weighing as much as 2 pounds, 13 ounces were taken on Nags Head Pier.
A few speckled trout and puppy drum were caught from Jennette's Pier during the morning. A good run of spot developed during the afternoon.
Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier landed some spot and a few sea mullet during the day.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported puppy drum and bluefish taken at a steady rate during the morning, and plenty of spot throughout the afternoon.
Some nice bluefish and spot were taken sporadically on Avon Pier Thursday.
Fair numbers of spot, mullet, a few pompano and bluefish were caught by fishermen on Frisco Pier.
Surfcasters beached many small bottom fish from Corolla to Oregon Inlet on Thursday. A few speckled trout were landed on plastic bait from sloughs north of Kitty Hawk and Nags Head Pier.
Nice-sized bluefish and puppy drum were caught on the north side of Oregon Inlet by anglers using cut bait. Puppy drum, spot and flounder were landed on the inlet's south side. Trout fishing was slow in Green Island Slough.
Good catches of puppy drum and bottom fish were reported by surfcasters from ramps 23 to 30.
Puppy drum fishing was good at Cape Point. Spot, sea mullet, pompano and bluefish also were taken there.
Gray trout action was good at Hatteras Inlet Wednesday night. Lots of pompano and some nice bluefish were landed along the beach from ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet on Thursday.
Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was good, with small bluefish and Spanish mackerel plentiful. Headboat action around Oregon Inlet was slow.
King mackerel were abundant southeast of the Zane Grey in moderately deep water. Most of the fish averaged from five to 15 pounds and were caught on Drone Spoons pulled deep behind planers.
Good catches of dolphin, fair catches of yellowfin tuna and some wahoo were reported by charters fishing off Oregon Inlet on Thursday. Two billfish were released by the Oregon Inlet and Pirate's Cove fleets.
Billfishing was good again Thursday off Hatteras. Releases included two blue marlin by the Sea Creature, two white marlin by the Chaser, two sailfish each by the Capt. B. and the Good Times, and single sailfish by the Wahoo and the Top Billing. The best action was south of the Diamond Shoals Light Tower. Fairly good catches of dolphin and tuna also were reported by the Hatteras fleet.
Bottom fishing should be good along the Dare coast this coming weekend, providing the forecasted northeast winds aren't too strong and seas aren't too rough.
