A 25-yard extra-point kick by Jermaine Bullock provided Norcom with a 13-12 victory over Great Bridge at Churchland Thursday night, snapping a three-game losing streak for the Greyhounds.
After a 47-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Kevin Jones to Darrin Satterwhite tied the score with 9:02 left in the game, Norcom was assessed with a motion penalty before the extra point attempt. The 6-3, 275-pound Bullock then booted the ball through for the eventual winner.
``Now maybe we have the monkey off our back,'' said Bullock, a starter on the 1993 state championship Norcom team.
The game started as though Great Bridge (1-2, 1-4) would blow the Greyhounds (1-3, 1-3) away. After recovering a Norcom fumble at the outset of the game, the Wildcats went 58 yards in three plays for a touchdown. Quarterback Mike Cuddyer connected with back Adrian Hughes on a 37-yard score.
In Norcom's next possession the Greyhounds had a pass intercepted at midfield and Great Bridge moved for another touchdown in six plays with Cuddyer throwing a 23-yard pass to Rob Ziegenfuss.
The Norcom defense completely shut down the Wildcats the rest of the way. Jones moved in for starter Michael Ponds at quarterback and provided the offense with a lift. He hit on 8 of 17 passes. by CNB
