HOUSE TOUR TO BENEFIT CHARITIES THE EVENT HAS BEEN HELD THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER SINCE 1985.

Beach residents will have a chance to visit a palatial home overlooking the Lynnhaven River and contribute to a worthy cause Thursday.

For a $3 contribution, visitors will be able to tour the 10,000 square foot Spanish style home of Harry and Jacqueline Koppens, 1995 House for All Seasons.

The Virginia Beach City Union of The King's Daughters sponsors the tour, which has been held during the first week of October since 1985. Each room of the selected house is decorated in the style of a different season, hence the name of the fund-raising effort.

Carol Smith, co-chairperson of the tour and a member of the union, said the money will go to the M.E. Cox Day Care Center for the Elderly and the Seton House, a crisis shelter for teens.

``Refreshments will be served in the courtyard entrance area,'' said Smith. ``And visitors can buy decorative pieces provided by King's Daughters members. We'll be selling baked goods and plants, too.''

A comforter donated by Birdcloud Creations will be raffled.

A Netherlands native and businessman, Harry Koppens built the Little Neck area house seven years ago. A pool scene from the film ``Jackie O'' was shot there. This is the first time it has been open to the public.

Among other items, tour visitors will see a 200-year-old cross bow and arrow, an Oriental rug from the turn of the century, an 18th century clock - a copy of which remains in the Palace of Versailles in France - and 19th century statuary. The house even has heated marble floors on the first level.

The Virginia Beach City Union of the King's Daughters consists of 11 circles with a combined membership of about 200. It is a charitable organization and raised between $60,000 and $70,000 in 1994. About $9,000 came from last year's House for All Seasons.Beach residents will have a chance to visit a palatial home overlooking the Lynnhaven River and contribute to a worthy cause Thursday.
