James River Corp.'s Marathon, Ontario, pulp mill has received the Lake Superior Forum Award from the Lake Superior Binational Program in recognition of the mill's 77 percent reduction of adsorbable organic halides and greater than 99 percent reduction of dioxins and furans from its waste water discharge system. The Lake Superior Binational Program is a U.S.-Canada environmental improvement effort for Lake Superior conducted by Environmental Canada, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and the state environmental agencies of Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
