HIGH-SPEED TURNS

ILLUSTRATION: U.S. NAVY PHOTO

The John C. Stennis - the Navy's newest aircraft carrier - makes a

high-speed turn during rudder checks off the Virginia Cape. The ship

successfully completed the Builder's Sea Trial on Friday. The ship

and its crew of 2,500, with 750 shipyard and government test and

evaluation personnel, returned to Newport News Shipbuilding Friday

morning after the four-day systems shakedown. The 97,000-ton ship's

propulsion, navigation, combat and support systems were tested.
