Emmitt Earl Parker Sr., 83, of Route 1, died Oct. 11, 1995, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.
Mr. Parker was born in Gates County. The son of the late James Robert ``Bob'' and Mrs. Addie Pierce Parker, he was a retired farmer. In 1973 he received the North Carolina Farmer of the Year for Soil and Water Conservation. He was a member of Damascus Christian Church in Sunbury.
Surviving are his wife, Hilda Boyce Parker; one daughter, Jymme B. Parker of Sunbury; one son, Earl Parker of Sunbury; one sister, Lizzie Lee McCoy of Suffolk; one brother, Dalton M. Parker Sr. of Sunbury; nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in the Parker Family Cemetery by the Rev. Riddick Pearce. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad. Friends may join the family at the residence.
